This is something that my husband and I talked about a lot. He believed as a child and I didn’t. I never believed in Santa, thanks to two older brothers who said he was hit by a car before I was born LOL!
My husband did believe in Santa (he is the older child so THAT might have helped!)
In our household we are Christians and I really want “J” to know the real meaning of christmas and not just what society wants us to believe.
I also felt like if I told him that Santa does exist when he really doesn’t I would be lying to him. Then at some point when he did find out there is no Santa then the trust he had in us will be broken.
Then I found this book:
It is called My Christmas Stocking by Crystal Bowman
This kids book talks about where stocking tradition started. I actually really like it!
There was a man named St. Nicholas who wanted people to know of God’s love and how he gave us his son.
So he would give gifts everywhere he went and sometimes hide gifts inside someone’s “stockings” to remind people of God’s gift.
So I looked a little deeper into it and this is what I found:
So yes Virginia there IS a Santa Claus… kinda of

That is beautiful! Thank you for sharing this, I love what you are doing with your son!
Finally, someone else that believes telling a child Santa is real is lying to them. My husband and I, like you are Christians and want our children to know the true meaning of Christmas – just as you said. Like you, we explained who St. Nicholas really was. We tell our children the truth that the Santa who flies around the world on Christmas eve is just a fun story just like Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. We still have fun watching all the Christmas shows with Santa in them. I'll have to check out "My Christmas Stocking".
