When you walk in the house you get the awesome aroma of something baking.  What is it? Cookies? Cake? Well what ever it is it sure will be eaten the second it comes out of the oven.  You then realize you are the mom and if there is something in the oven baking then someone broke into your house to bake something (a girl can dream can’t she) . So what is the smell then?

You then remember that you got Renuzit Air Freshener’s new line “Tempting indulgences” Red Velvet Cake and chocolate covered cherries(#TemptYourSenses). Well  me as a mildly creative person decided to actually make something that smelled like this, that I could eat (since I can’t eat the air fresheners ;) ).

I had most of the ingredients for a red velvet cookie recipe. I was only missing the red food coloring.  If you know me you know I am not good at waiting to get something so of course I went to Walmart to get what I needed…

My son thinks that he is now the connoisseur of air fresheners and had to go check out all the smells they have in that row:

Sniff..

AHHH

Yeah mom I LOVE them all!!

I got what I needed after peeling my son away from this row and we went home to bake.  I decided to make red velvet cookies because it would go good with my theme surprise party (red, white and blue)for my hubby who just got his citizenship (to see that part of the story go to my google + page).

I found a great recipe from How sweet it is and made it with my own little flair (the icing on the top).

Here is her recipe:

Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Cookies

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup cocoa powder

1 teaspoon red food coloring

1/2 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375.

Directions:

Cream butter and sugars together until fluffy in the bowl of an electric mixer.

Add egg and vanilla and combine until smooth.

Beat in red food coloring.

Stir in cocoa, flour, baking soda and salt until just combined, scraping down the sides when needed.

Fold in chocolate chips.

Using an ice cream scoop, scoop out 1-2 tablespoons of dough and set on baking sheet.

Bake for 10-12 minutes.

The icing is easy it is just Milk, powdered sugar, vanilla and margarine. I just mixed together until it came to the consistency I liked. Basically it mostly powdered sugar 1/2 cup or so, maybe 1/8 tsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp margarine, and just enough milk to make it moist.  You can make a MUCH bigger amount of icing but you don’t need that much for these cookies.

Then EAT mmmmmmm

So what would you do? I would love to hear what creative idea you come up with! I love trying new recipes! Share what you do!! :) To find out more about Renuzit Tempting indulgence or anything out make sure to follow them on Facebook.
