Pretty sure my hubby feels like I am this way! Guys to tell you the truth most women are like this. I am sure this is not news to you.
My hubby has said to me before “you are more beautiful today than you were when you were a kid!” It was supposed to be a complement and I know it, but here’s the secret guys… if it can be switched around in our heads it will be! This is what I heard “you were butt ugly as a child and I am glad I didn’t meet you until you were grown.”
There are pitfalls everywhere! Sorry you guys are not going to win, but let me give you a few that rarely backfire on my hubby.
“You are the sweetest person alive and I am so glad I married you.”
“Let me give you a massage since you had a hard day” (MAJOR points for this one, might even erase a few of the oops ones you said before)
OK really none can top the massage one there is not a women out there that doesn’t like a good massage even if it is just a neck/shoulder massage.
So why do we tick the way we tick? Pay attention here guys…!!!
Because we are girls! That is it! There is no big secret here, just girls. Our brains are wired this way.
So what should you do when you put your foot in your mouth with something that you thought was a great compliment??
That is different for each girl and it all depends on what you said. I mean my husband compared me to a cow once (not anything to do with weight) he is still paying penance for that one.
So the secret to this all to keep your ladies happy is get to know them and think through what you are about to say and try to figure out the only way it can only be positive! I promise it will pay off.

I can’t think of any of Shawn’s off the top of my head but I remember once – ages ago before kids – we vacationed in Maui with another couple. The wife (suzy) asked her husband (steve) how she looked after getting ready for dinner out and he replied: “You look pretty good, except for your face.” She had gotten sunburned so her face was red, but OH MY GOSH. We laughed so hard and it became our catch phrase for the rest of the trip.

I do this to my husband just to be fun. He always calls me on “switching his words around” although I have to be careful because sometimes I think I believe more what I say he said and not what he really said. – entering the 31 gifts bag contest
