My son, for reasons I don’t understand, has decided to start a rock collection. He loves to paint on them and just talk about them. Since I didn’t want rocks all over my house I decided to make a little box that he can put them in.

What you will need:

Craft/popsicle sticks (you can get this at any craft store)

glue (elmers is just fine)

paint

Newspaper (to paint over)

OPTIONAL:

Hinges and string

I am not the most crafty of people.  I LOVE to draw but crafts seemed to escape me totally so it took a little time before I figure out how to do it (don’t make fun of me LOL)

I was trying to figure out how to get them to stick to each other to make the box:

So then I looked online and figured it out!

SO Step 1: get said child to help:

STEP 2: Glue the stick on to each other.

  • put all sticks next to each other evenly
  • put glue all the way along the stick used to keep it all together
  • put the sticks on top of the glue so that it holds the row of sticks together
It should look like this:
  • Repeat for the bottom of the box

Step 3: Put a dot of glue on each end and start to stack on top those sticks alternating sides:

Step 4: Let the glue dry (the hardest step for a child)

Step 5: Paint the box (or whatever you want to use to decorate the box). This is where my un-crafty side came out again and I painted BEFORE I made the box! I SOOO do not recommend that! DO it after! Lots easier!

We painted each separately LOL

Step six: (Optional part)

glue hinges and string on it. I didn’t like the way it turned out so next time I don’t think I would do that.

Here is the finished product:

It was fun to do and I got to spend some time with my son! SO in the end it was SO worth doing it even if the box is not as pretty as other peoples!

What craft have you done lately! I would love some good ideas!
